Hare Krishna! Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Jayatah! Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Ki Jaya!
Dear devotees, life members and guests!
On this most auspicious occasion of the sacred installation of Their Lordships, the Supreme Personalities of Godhead, Sri Sri Krishna and Balarama, today on the 15th August, 2000, we would like to take the opportunity of humbly and heart-fully thanking and expressing our appreciation to all those who helped in making this historic and spiritual event possible. First of all, we would like to thank Sriman Gautam Teelock who generously gave us this land in the name of his father Sri Rameshwar Teelock.
Mr. Gautam Teelock has been like a father to us, helping ISKCON since its start in Mauritius, after having met Srila Prabhupada on numerous occasions and been inspired by His Divine Grace to help establish ISKCON in Mauritius.
Next we would like to thank our dear-most Godbrothers and Godsisters who over the years have spent time in Mauritius gracing us with their association and assistance. Namely, HH Giriraj Swami, HH Bhakti Charu Swami, HH Jayapataka Swami, HH Krishna das Swami, HH Gopal Krishna Goswami, HH Lokanath Swami, HH B.B. Govinda Swami, Amogha Lila das, Atma Atma das and his wife Sachimata devi dasi, Bhagavat das and his wife, Caranambhuja das and his wife Sahasrakshi devi dasi, Gaura das and his wife, Kala das and his wife, Kapila das, Krishna Valabha das and his wife Radha Priya devi dasi, Mahatma das, Shastivara das. Also our Mauritian Godbrother Apavarga das (S. Narain) who was on the initial life membership committee who helped us obtain the land and start off the project. We pray to Lord Madhava that He arranges for them to visit us again in the future so as to see the final result of the completed temple and again bless us with their holy association. We offer our prostrated obeisances in the dust of their holy feet. Next we would like to thank all our ISKCON devotees, past and present, who selflessly and sincerely went around, year after year, knocking door after door, begging donations, selling books and incense, digging foundations, hauling and mixing concrete and giving their life and youth in helping in the realization of this project.
May our disciplic succession of saints and Their Lordships bless them with the supreme goal of life of going back home back to Godhead. Although the list of these devotees’ names may be a little long, it is for our mutual purification and blessings that we should hear of them, because their wonderful service and example can be a source of spiritual inspiration for us all. Firstly Mahadeva das, one of the first devotees to join on the farm when we started this project in 1982, along with Vasudeva das, Gour Kishor das, Nrsimha Tirtha das, Cit Shakti das, Sri Hari das.
Mahadeva das has been-and still is-the devotee in charge of supervising the work of the temple construction as well as looking after the cows and agriculture. Let us not forget Hanuman das, Svetadweep das, Rshab das and his wife. All of them are now serving ISKCON in India. We also thank Giridhari and his wife Karunika dasi, who were part our team for many years. Tribhuvanatha das (Dada Bishnathsing, who cooked us such nice pickles and prasad), Shastravit das, Chaitya Guru das and his wife Rohini dasi, Kunjavihari das, Advaita Krishna das and his wife Sumitra dasi, Vrajendranandana das, the Dasmuth family of Triolet, especially Natabara das, who is a disciple of Srila Prabhupada and was the first Mauritian devotee to join ISKCON , and his brother Nitai das, Mukta Purusha das, Ram Mohan das, Rajavidya das and his wife, Krishnadas Kaviraj das, Parashara Muni and Svayambhu dasa . May the darling of our hearts, Sri Krishna Bhagavan, shower His choicest blessings on all these wonderful devotees. Many of these devotees are still helping us with their devotional service, since some 15 to 20 years.
We also heartfully and humbly thank, Guru Shakti das and his wife Radha Golokananda devi dasi, who have been with us since the beginning. He has been faithfully doing the austerity of purchasing all these years. He must have driven to Port Louis and back a million times! He also is one of our great kirtan leaders, devotees and members whose names we have forgotten. May they please forgive us and rest assured that Lord Krishna has not forgotten them or their service.
Then we want to glorify, for our mutual purification, our team of full time sankirtan devotees. Raghunath das, Ram Vijay das, Sambha das, Ksirodaksayi Visnu das, Adhoksaja das, Sankirtan das and Bhakta Ashish. We have a special mention for Syamananda das who also dasi, Guru Carana Padma devi dasi, Sudevi dasi, Srimati dasi, Nayana Manjari dasi, Bhaktin Babita, Bhaktin Reena and Bhaktin Dhiya. These devotees are most fortunate, because by living in the ashram, they are living in the ashraya (shelter) of the Lord. Experience shows us that this privileged shelter is rarely attained even though so many aspire for it. It requires full surrender and total dependence on the Lord’s mercy.
We are not mentioning all our congregational devotees, life members and part time devotees in this appreciation, as the list of their names would be too long. However we would like to express our sincere thanks for all of their service. Without their constant support and help we would have never been able to complete this project. We pray to Srila Prabhupada and Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu for their continued advancement in Krishna consciousness. We would like to thank all the members of the Mauritian public who have so generously contributed donations of construction materials and financial assistance over the years.
Kindly refer to the article in this issue entitled The Glories of Temple Construction. May the Supreme Lord bless you all with further advancement in spiritual life and happiness.
Begging to remain, Yours in service of the Supreme Lord and His devotees,
Sriniketana Das (Temple president), and Arjuna Das (Vice-president),
